Brand Story
After years of entrepreneurial ventures, the Down Home brand itself began as a family colloboration through the stay-at-home pandemic years. Wanting to use our time and resources to create, we opted for a lot of DIY projects with wood and paint. Over the years, it has evolved into using those creative juices to not only create but to inspire.
We're still making when we can, but strive to find ways to be creative no matter what environment we're in. It's those little unique touches that bring us joy, comfort, and peace. We believe that everyone has the ability to both create and be creative. More importantly, we believe our spaces thrive when they are designed with intention -- not just for functionality, but also for fun.
We believe that everyone has the power to transform their surroundings into places that spark joy, regardless of size or budget. Our mission is to inspire creativity in everyone. We understand that a joyful space doesn't necessarily require grand designs or a hefty budget. Instead, it's about finding what resonates with you personally and incorporating those elements into your space.
We hope you'll be inspired here!
About Kat
Kat's creative journey began at a very young age and has only grown since. While most girls were asking for clothes and makeup for birthdays, she shamelessly requested hardwood floors in her bedroom and the latest interior design software for the home computer. Her eye for design has manifested itself in both her spaces and style regardless, yes--"of size or budget".
While she prides herself in finding items on a deal, she takes no exception to grandiose fashion and design. "It's all about doing you. Find what you love - the things that make you happy - that bring a smile to your face whenever you see them -- and make sure you find a way to see those things often. Creating environments that are meaningful, functional, and fun are my passion. Whether you love thrifting and junking or high style, it's imperative that you make your space yours."
Kat studied Interior Design at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA and Art Education, Language, and Literacy at The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC where she currently resides with her family. She most loves spending time with her kids and continuing to always find ways to create joy in her own spaces and style.
